Nackel's Update Log

Post by Nackel »

I will be using this thread as a sort of log of all the updates I make to the site.

Wednesday, 9/14/22
  • Major updates to the forums general layout and icon set. Still not finished, but coming together nicely.
  • I have BIG ideas for the map & catching system that I hope to start on very soon. This in particular has me super excited and I can not wait to begin throwing code together and see what unfolds!
  • The other forum admin, Shiny, has started working on some of the important/sticky threads in the rules section. I would like to take this time to thank him for his efforts and enthusiasm towards helping me with the site. Thank you buddy!

  • Small updates to the forums, added a legend to the bottom for the read/unread icons. Still have to finish editing a few of them. All the forum thread icons are finished.
  • Added trades, contest and suggestion forums.
  • Going to try and start on the map/catching system for the RPG.

  • A TON of progress on the map system today, I basically focused my complete attention on coding in the wild encounters and the engine that will run the map system. I am so pleased with how everything worked out, and I can not put into words how excited I am for the future of the RPG based on how the map and wild Pokemon encounter system came together with such ease. There are so many possibilities for future upgrades and expansion with how I managed to work everything out.
  • Building on the momentum and motivation brought about by the map system I already have plans for a few other features that will expand even further into that mechanic and will really set the RPG apart from the competition. I don't want to release any spoilers at this point, but believe me when I say I have never been more excited to write code!

  • Don't be alarmed, even though I may not have posted for a few days with updates doesn't mean I haven't been steadily working on things around the RPG.
  • First and foremost we are up and running on our brand new server with our brand new domain name to boot! Exciting news!
  • I have completely finished adding wild encounters to 3 maps so far. The wild Pokémon catching system should be fully up and going by the end of next week if all goes according to plan.
  • I will be adding links to the Forums and maps from the main RPG navigation very soon, it needs to be done, but obviously is not taking priority over getting other things fully functional first. Links to the forums and the map select regions have been added.

  • I finished the locking and unlocking of maps based on trainer level and badge requirements. With this I also coded in trainer leveling via traier experience points.
  • One more map for the Kanto region added.
  • Unique encounters on the maps are now recorded and display as 'Pokemon seen' on the map select page.
  • Capturing wild Pokemon is getting close to being completed, completing the battle system will most likely be the next main focus with the completion of the roster changing system following soon after.

  • Added a whopping 14 maps to the Kanto region today! I still have to go through and put the coords of the searchable areas as well as the wild encounters. Kanto isn't even done yet and there are already 18 maps!
  • Took way too long to design the final look of the wild encounters, I finally got it to what it currently is and I am fairly pleased with it. I have also started coding in the actual capturing of said wild Pokemon and that should be fully functional in a day or two.
  • I was asked earlier what would be next after wild Pokemon are obtainable. I will be finishing up the battle system as well as adding in the PokeMart so that Pokeballs (required for catching wild Pokemon) and other items can be purchased.
I'm still churning away with code and design, some days are more minor with things being done behind the scenes in the coding that can't really be seen, but things are happening!!

  • First of all, my apologies for the delay in posting about updates. Shiny and I have gotten a ton of things done around the RPG this week.
  • The roster changing page has been completed including the quick change on the right side navigation. Clicking the pokemon's sprite on the side bar will automatically place that Pokemon in the first position of your roster.
  • Wild Pokémon are able to be caught on the maps, every Pokémon (so far) that can be found also has a very rare chance of being a shiny!
  • Speaking of shiny, he has pretty much finished up the maps that are available so far and I will get them added to the database with wild Pokémon over the weekend. In total we should have somewhere around 100 available Pokémon on the RPG once that is done. Pretty crazy!
  • I've started working on the design for the PokéMart and will work on that this weekend as well, it's fairly simply code so I might even be able to get that done in the next day or two.
I plan to complete the battle system after these other projects are completed, once the battle system is finished as far as code is concerned it will really open the door to other features such as Trainer vs Trainer battles and of course more gyms and things. Progress will come pretty quick once the battle system is complete! We're really making great progress and I am looking forward to the next coming weeks for sure.
